As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2023, First Intuition Reading and Southampton hosted their third annual apprenticeship awards ceremony last week. We are delighted to share that Lucy Stokes, one of our audit managers, won the Rising Star Award which celebrates former apprentices who have excelled since completing their apprenticeship. Becoming a qualified accountant is the first step in a very successful career and those rising stars can continue to shine long after qualification - congratulations Lucy!

Presenting the awards Claire Needham, one of the directors and tutors at First Intuition Reading, who commented: “Our winner of this award proves that rising stars in the classroom go on the be rising stars in the workplace!  Having successfully completed her ICAEW qualification – appearing to sail through the exams thanks to her hard work and positivity, she is now proving to be an inspirational line manager to newer trainees as their start their qualifications. She takes time to ensure they are fully supported and confident in themselves and her nomination clearly reflects the gratitude they feel for her understanding and professionalism.  She continues to impress us all and I am excited to watch her career progress.”

“Lucy was an apprentice previously with First Intuition, and now is a line manager supporting new trainees throughout their studies. She always has positive feedback for her learners, and clearly takes time to work with them to feel comfortable in their roles. When I first met Lucy I did not realise she had qualified in recent years, as she showed complete professionalism and knowledge in her role.”

We are also pleased to share that James Cowper Kreston were runners up for the ‘Apprentice Employer of the Year’ award, recognising employers who have put apprenticeships at the heart of their business.

At the ceremony we were commended for investing in the success of our learners, as well as

  • Our understanding in the importance and value of all elements of the apprenticeship programme
  • Our line managers being fully engaged with their learners’ programmes
  • Treating our apprentices as individuals and providing them with the support and encouragement that they need
