We are pleased to announce our role as Corporate Finance adviser to Psychology Tools, an online resource for psychology and mental health professionals, on its investment from YFM Equity Partners (‘YFM’).
Founded in 2008 by clinical psychologist Dr Matthew Whalley, Reading-headquartered Psychology Tools is a leading online platform designed to support therapists with best practice evidence-based resources, tools, and guidance. Users access its content, which includes downloadable research papers, session plans, Q&A guides and audiobooks, via annual subscription to an online platform. But its remit isn’t limited to health professionals, the platform is also providing free, high-quality mental health information to members of the public.
YFM’s investment in Psychology Tools will enable the team to help source a chair and a chief operating officer for the business. The new senior appointees will support the strategic development of Psychology Tools, alongside Dr Whalley, who commented: "With the backing of YFM and our new team members in place, we look forward to supporting even more mental health professionals. We are excited about creating an even broader range of resources, and developing more ways for clients to interact with them."
“Stuart and the team at James Cowper Kreston were excellent to work with – not only were complex topics thoroughly and clearly explained, they successfully tackled seemingly insurmountable challenges, and skilfully managed any moments of frustration. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with them as our business continues to expand.”
Adam Hart, YFM investment director, added: "Psychology Tools is a great example of a business that has flourished as a result of a founder's passion and dedication. It has an outstanding reputation for quality content and accessibility. With YFM's investment and the expert guidance of the new chair and COO, we are confident that Psychology Tools can execute a growth plan that will benefit both the business and its thousands of users across the globe."
Stuart Williams, Partner and Head of Corporate Finance at James Cowper Kreston commented, “We are delighted to have advised Psychology Tools on its investment from YFM. Dr Whalley has built a fantastic resource, and the investment will enable Psychology Tools to invest in expanding its team and accelerate its growth plans. We look forward to continuing to work with both Psychology Tools and YFM, as they build on their market-leading specialist online platform to support mental health professionals.”
James Cowper Kreston advised Psychology Tools alongside lawyers Field Seymour Parks. YFM Equity Partners were advised by Crowe and Harrison Clark Rickerby.
