James Cowper Kreston are pleased to announce the completion of YFM’s investment in the Tonkotsu restaurant chain. James Cowper Kreston provided tax structuring advice to YFM during the transaction.

Tonkotsu are a chain of Japanese themed ramen restaurants who operate across London and are set to open two more London sites later this year in Peckham and Shoreditch and a further site in Selfridges in Birmingham. The company’s founders, Emma Reynolds and Ken Yamada, along with Tonkotsu’s managing director, Stephen Evans, will continue to lead the business.

YFM Equity Partners, a specialist private equity investment firm have invested £5 million into the chain which gives the firm a minority stake. The injection of capital will allow Tonkotsu to further expand its operations and grow by opening more stores across the country.

Phil Snell, Business Tax Director at James Cowper Kreston said: “It has been a pleasure to advise YFM on the structuring of their investment in Tonkotsu demonstrating the depth and breadth of experience James Cowper Kreston have in this area. YFM have a reputation for backing successful management teams and it has been enjoyable working alongside both YFM and the Tonkotsu management team.”
