Accounts & Advisory (ACA/ACCA)

What is Accounts & Advisory?

In the Accounts team we prepare unaudited statutory accounts. This means that we do not complete any audit testing to verify the accuracy of our client’s figures. Instead, we are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements – and often corporation tax returns.

In addition to the above we also prepare forecasts, share-based payment calculations, and post year-end journals in our client’s software. Often, we are the main point of contact with our clients and field a whole range of queries across the different service lines.

Being in constant contact with our clients allows us to understand their businesses, financial results and to seek advisory opportunities.

Types of clients we work with
Starting a career in Accounts

Your initial focus would be on preparing basic financial statements and corporation tax returns and you will undergo training – both internal and external – to help you understand the role. You will work for a variety of managers within the team, exposing you to several different sectors and interesting projects.

By the end of your first year, we aim for you to be able to:

  • Tag accounts for submission to Companies House and HMRC.
  • Perform first reviews of basic financial statements and corporation tax returns.
  • Post adjustments to financial statements and corporation tax returns.
  • Assist managers on other projects.
  • Be comfortable liaising with clients for accounting records and queries.
What skills are relevant for a career in Accounts?

You do not need to have a degree in accounting and finance to join our graduate scheme. Whatever your degree you will have knowledge and skills that are transferable to a career in Accounts, and we welcome variety!

We encourage our clients to keep in touch and you will frequently liaise with a range of clients - developing strong interpersonal skills and confidence in written and spoken communication.

As a department we also place a great deal of emphasis on the advisory aspect of our relationships with our clients. We provide our team with the resources to inform themselves on a range of accounts and tax issues that might be relevant to our clients, and we are always learning.

What qualification will I achieve?

Working in Accounts you will have the choice of studying for either the ACA (ICAEW) or ACCA qualification as part of a three-year Level 7 Apprenticeship. More information about the two qualifications can be found here:
