On 26 November Chancellor Rachel Reeves will deliver her second Budget, continuing her mission to reshape the UK’s economic landscape under the Labour government.
This budget faces several critical challenges, including speculations surrounding fiscal defecit, weak economic growth, and the need to boost productivity without breaching Labour’s tax pledges. The Chancellor must balance ambitious investment in infrastructure and public services with politically sensitive tax reforms, such as changes to Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax, while avoiding direct hikes to Income Tax, VAT, or National Insurance for working people. Additionally, pressures from businesses, voter expectations, and global economic uncertainty further complicate efforts to deliver a budget that is both fiscally responsible and socially progressive.
