Tom is a director in the Business Recovery and Insolvency team and a licenced Insolvency Practitioner. He joined James Cowper Kreston in 2009 as part of our Southampton office and has 12 years of professional experience providing restructuring and insolvency services.
Tom is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and sits on the Southern Region committee of the Association of Business Recovery Processionals (R3).
Tom has experience of helping a wide range of business with a particular interest in the technology, retail and hospitality sectors.
Tom’s expertise on solvent liquidations (MVLs) is very respected within the sector. He often assists retiring business owners realise their investments in a tax efficient way. Some recent projects include the following:
Advising an overseas client in respect of the orderly wind down and subsequent solvent liquidation of its UK subsidiary. The client was particularly concerned that the closure of the business be handled as sensitively as possible for reputational reasons.
The solvent liquidation of a company with approximately £12m of cash reserves following the sale of its business to an industry competitor. Careful planning enabled us to distribute almost £10m to the retiring shareholders the day following the appointment of liquidators.

A technology start up based in London which was unable to raise sufficient investment to continue to grow their business.
The sale, from an administration, of a business supplies company which encountered difficulties as a result of receiving an Accelerated Payment Notice from HMRC which the Company could not pay.
