Biography

Sharon heads up James Cowper Kreston’s business tax team and sits in the Oxford office.

With over 30 years of experience advising companies and their stakeholders on taxation, Sharon is an expert in her field. She is also a graduate of the University of Cambridge, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and a member of the UK Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA).

Having gained extensive experience in Big 4 firms, including in Toronto Canada, Sharon moved to James Cowper Kreston in 2002.

Sharon is a founder member of the Kreston International Tax Group and presents on tax related matters to a variety of audiences. 

Sectors

One area of Sharon’s expertise lies in international tax matters, including BEPS, cross-border financing, supply chain management, tax structures, international M&A and transfer pricing.  Having worked abroad herself she has a good understanding of the challenges of international business.  She has helped a large number of overseas businesses establish UK operations and has also helped a number of UK companies set up international operations and collaborations, particularly in the US, Europe and increasingly China

Sharon has a varied portfolio of clients of all sizes, with a predominance in the technology sector. She has advised technology companies and their stakeholders on a wide range of taxation issues including; R&D Tax Credits, Patent Box, EIS, Share Schemes, M&A transactions and international expansion.  She delights in helping clients develop tax strategies which are commercially right for their businesses.

Current strategic projects

Recent projects include:

  • Group reorganisation to facilitate the tax efficient disposal of a chemical business

  • Multi-country tax due diligence for a software group

  • Transfer pricing assignment / BEPS project for a life-sciences company

  • Tax advice to a number of spin-out companies from the University of Oxford including advice on fundraising, EIS and share schemes.
