Residence and Domicile

Understanding and planning for residence and domicile is very important in the current tax climate and we have a specialist team, experienced in these areas. These have become particularly complicated following the introduction of significant additional layers of anti-avoidance legislation in recent years, with more in the pipe-line.

We work closely with colleagues in the Kreston network to provide comprehensive advice for both those coming to the UK and those moving abroad, on both UK and foreign tax implications.

We, along with our Ex-Pat team advise and assist private individuals on the tax implications and possibilities, and tax compliance requirements, of their residence and domicile, and their UK investments and interests.  We advise business owners on the implications and opportunities of a change in their residency, and trading in the UK and overseas.  We also advise employers and their employees, assigned or employed in the UK and abroad.

In particular we can offer the following:

  • Advice on residency and domicile status
  • Planning and compliance for the remittance of funds from overseas
  • UK tax implications of employment contracts
  • UK personal tax compliance for non-UK residents
  • Advice on national insurance contributions

  • Income tax, corporation tax and VAT issues of trading in the UK, and trading overseas
  • Non-resident landlord scheme returns and compliance

Offshore structures

  • Residency of structures
  • Export and repatriation of structures
  • Tax compliance and advice on existing offshore structures
  • Advice on creation of offshore structures for tax mitigation

We work with other advisors, be they offshore trustees, offshore investment advisors, or other advisors in overseas jurisdictions, to help achieve the required aims of our clients.
