Margaret is a business tax director and sits in our Oxford office. She originally trained as an auditor with a Big 4 firm and her work took her to Vietnam, Australia and Mexico. Margaret then developed her skills in the corporate tax arena and has worked for the past 20 years within accountancy firms, joining James Cowper Kreston in 2016 where she specialises in R&D and Patent Box tax credits.
Margaret has a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University as well as a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Sussex. She is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA). She regularly attends the R&D Consultative Committee - a twice yearly meeting where members of the accountancy profession discuss with HMRC and HMT policy teams all aspects of Patent Box and R&D. Margaret has also lectured on tax and accountancy to student accountants.
Particular sector focus includes, science and technology although she has a wide-ranging portfolio mix.
Additionally, Margaret’s portfolio includes a number of UK subsidiaries of multinational entities and has assisted them with their compliance and documentation requirements, particularly in the light of the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) project.

Tax advisor to an AIM-listed group, where audit is undertaken by a Big 4 firm and the company requires separate tax advisors to provide tax compliance assistance as well as advice.
Margaret is also assisting several clients with the UK notification requirements under Country by Country Reporting introduced by the OECD as part of the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting project
