Alex is head of audit and assurance at James Cowper Kreston, having initially trained and qualified as a chartered accountant at the firm’s Newbury office. Moving to Reading in 2006 Alex continued his career acting as audit manager to clients in a range of sectors. He was later appointed partner in 2008 and acts as lead partner to a wide range of clients. As well as being a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) he holds the ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting.
Outside the firm, Alex is a member of the ICAEW Audit Faculty Committee and a member of the ICAEW working party on Quality Control in the Audit Environment. He is also a member of the International Federation of Accountants Small and Medium Sized Practices Committee.
Alex works with a wide range of clients, including companies, charities and Academy schools. Corporate clients are typically owner managed and services provided include the preparation of accounts, audit and other accounting, tax and business related advice. He also acts as audit partner to a number investment funds.
Many of Alex’s clients are charities and Academy schools; he has a personal interest in this sector having been a charity trustee. He is also currently Chair of the Audit Committee at a local Multi Academy Trust.
Alex’s other clients include UK subsidiaries of overseas groups or UK groups with operations overseas. He works closely with members of the Kreston network to provide advice to these clients across several territories.
A particular specialist sector for Alex is the film industry; specifically companies who produce their work in the UK.
For many clients the work undertaken is centred around the annual year end process. This provides the opportunity to give a wide range of business and tax related advice to clients.

Review of the existing accounting system and implementation of a new accounting and management information system for an owner managed business.
Advising on the set up of an Australian branch for a UK based group.
Working with overseas film production companies, providing guidance to obtain film tax credit.
Currently working with a client to develop a set of financial projections looking at both the short and medium term to enable the client to plan for a number of different future scenarios.
