Accountants & Business Advisers

Biography

I have been a partner in James Cowper Kreston since 2006 and was delighted to be elected as Chair of the Firm in 2020.

I started my career as a Big 4 auditor which gave me exposure to a variety of businesses as well as the opportunity to live and work in Toronto, Canada for two years. When I returned to the UK I opted to specialise in tax, qualifying as a Chartered Tax Advisor. I have now been advising companies and their stakeholders on taxation matters for over thirty years.

Taxation is increasingly complex and I pride myself on helping clients navigate their way through the rules and regulations, making the complicated understandable. I give my clients the peace of mind that they have met the requirements whilst ensuring they don’t miss out on opportunities to legitimately save tax when they can.

Over the years, I have worked with many entrepreneurs in a wide range of sectors, helping them establish and grow their businesses and then successfully selling. Specific areas of expertise include, EIS and other investment incentives, R&D tax credits, share schemes and other employee equity initiatives and tax efficient transactions, both acquisitions and exits.

I frequently advise on international tax matters. Having worked abroad myself, I have a good understanding of the challenges of international businesses. I have helped a large number of overseas companies establish operations in the UK and many UK businesses set up operations abroad particularly in the US, Europe and increasingly in Asia-Pacific. I sit on the leadership committee of the Kreston Global Tax Group which allows me to meet tax colleagues from around the world and access expert advice for my clients.
